Learning Activity Overview


ANTARCTICA
In this unit of work students studied Antarctica.
Students will use a variety of tools and resources to investigate Antarctica as one of Australia’s regions and as a unique environment that has possibilities for scientific research not available anywhere else in the world. They will explore the physical environment, the wildlife, environmental issues and the geography of Antarctica and how this has changed over time due to the impact of man. Future impacts will also be discussed and researched to provide students with the opportunity to think about and discuss what they believe needs to happen to protect this unique environment.
Students will complete tasks such as:
  • Workbook questions using Humanities 2
  • Mapping exercise
  • An overlay map (Assessment Task)
  • Group activity researching the unique environment of Antarctica (Fuse Activity)
  • Assignment focussed on the Human Impact on the Antarctic environment. (WEE project)
  • Group Oral Presentation based on an Antarctic Explorer.
